Sunday School

Sunday School for all ages began on Sunday, September 7, 2014.

Thalia Trinity Presbyeterian Church's philosophy on Christian Education: While it may be obvious to many, Christian Education at Thalia Trinity is seen as an opportunity to grow in a variety of ways over time. We aren't born, nor do we live, knowing it all. At Thalia Trinity we are ordinary people who all need to learn in order to grow "to serve an Extraordinary God."

Sunday School is an important part of learning what it means to be a Christian and serving God. This is true whether you are a child or a seasoned adult. We all need to grow toward God's likeness. With this in mind, there are learning opportunities offered for individual ages, from 0 to 93. These growth opportunities are offered each Sunday from 9:30 a.m. to 10:20 a.m, continue through choir rehearsal at 10:30 a.m., and again when we come back together for worship at 11:00 a.m.

Class Descriptions:

Adult (general) takes place in the Session Room. The group addresses specific topics of interest through videos, coupled with outside reading, class discussions, and rotating leadership. Topics range from the Beatitudes; The Jesus I Never Knew; Spirituality; and Prayer-Does It Make any Difference?

Men's LIFE (Living in Faith Everyday) Group meets in the minister's office. The group takes its direction from the concept that men in the church are role models and mentors to each other and to other men in the workplace and community. Through Bible and other spiritual book studies, prayer, and discussion, the leadership of this all male group seeks to understand God's leading role in their lives.

Youth Ministry (ages 12-17+) meets in the Youth Room (Room 5) and the Virginia Beach community at large. The Youth Group is self-directed in their Christian education. With the guidance and coaching of adult leaders, the youth identify their educational needs and opportunities. Throughout the year, based on where they see the group in its Christian journey, priorities are identified. There is not a specific formal curriculum for the Youth Group, but there's an emphasis on reaching out to the community (intra-church and the larger secular community) to do God's will.

Elementary (ages 6-11+) meets in a Fellowship classroom (Room 3). This class is structured to respond to the age group and transitioning needs of the group. Christian values and experiences are reinforced through informative classroom activities.

Pre-school (3-5+) meets in a Fellowship classroom (Room 2). This class is geared to the learning needs of an active, curious age group with a planned activity focus of "Jesus loves you."

The Nursery is for infants to 2+. (The Nursery is located in Room 8.) Cribs and toys are provided for the pre-verbal children who need attention while their parents are attending adult classes or worship, when the children's presence could be distracting. There are two (2) adults present at all times in the nursery.
